I chose to get the "mounting plate kit" as I didn't want the web strapping running across the seat interfering with the oem luggage rack or wearing out the seat after days/months/years. Worked out well for me! I have not ridden in the mud or rough terrain yet to see how they hold up under pressure & abuse as I mainly ride the asphalt side of things. I can only give 4 stars because I just installed them & haven't gone exploring yet in the rain or in adverse weather conditions to determine how "durable" or "sturdy" they are. In either case, I am pleased with the way they look & how easy they un-attach from the Tusk Pannier Rack system. Good Job Tusk!
