I just received this blanket and it says Nylon with insulated base. What is "insulated base"?** A: The insulated base appears to be merely a foam sheet that the nylon is flocked onto. All I know for sure is that once you have one of these blankets, you'll love it. I keep mine on the bed year round...it's perfect!! Easy to wash/dry, light weight, just perfect. Who cares about the specifics....I LOVE this blanket!!! **Q: Does the blanket need to be washed to remove the smell.** A: Purchased one on 9/20/17. After 4 cycles in the washer, the smell of VOCs are still there...slowly decreasing after each wash. See all the negative reviews for similar observations about smell. **Q: Is this blanket dust mite proof?** A: There is no such thing as a dust mite proof blanket. Dust and mites will always land on your blanket! You can get dust mite covers for a duvet however. They will zip at the bottom and not allow the dust through onto the duvet. **Q: Where is it manufactored** A: The vellux blanket I have was made in China. They're thick without being heavy and very warming in layers with a duvet over them.I don't know why people are mentioning a smell. There is no smell. But then the first thing I do with these is wash and dry them. On that first wash and dry there's a bit of fluff that comes off in the dryer filter, and presumably whatever smells people are mentioning. After that they're soft, and even though I generally live a life of luxury in most things around me, I really can't stand heavy blankets or things feeling weighted down on my feet while in bed, and these are my favorite.Absolutely perfect.I would have preferred plain white, but I'll settle for Ivory since they don't seem to make it.From years of experience I know these will last for years.I replaced an older one in the green color because I prefer more neutral colors, but that blanket is still going. When you wash and dry it and fold it it's fairly thick and makes a fantastic place (when folded) for the cat to sleep in comfort. He loves it, and the blanket isn't so precious or expensive that I can't take it out in the garden and put it on my teak bench so he can lay on it outside.
