This technology allows Sustina to remain very fluid at cold temperatures; reducing internal engine drag and improving fuel economy up to 2 percentage compared to currently available fuel conserving GF-4 oils of the same viscosity. At the heart of Sustina is the W Base technology. This new synthetic base oil is a Gas-to-Liquid Equivalent (GTLE), and was engineered to give the oil higher fluidity. Traditional synthetic base oils consist of hydrogen-carbon molecules which contain ring structures. These structures can often collide and intertwine with each other, slowing oil movement, especially at cold temperatures. W Base technology realigns the hydrogen-carbon chain into a structure that is more or less completely straight, allowing free movement of the oil molecules and providing lower engine drag and improved fuel efficiency and power. Most engine oils today utilize zinc, sulfur, and phosphorus in their anti-wear additives, but sulfur can negatively impact the cleanliness of an engine.
