Frequently Asked Questions Q1: Will this dock work with any laptop? How do I make sure my laptop works with this dock? A1: This dock works with Windows 10 laptops equipped with Thunderbolt 4, and MacBooks running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later. It doesn’t work with Linux or Chrome OS laptops, Thunderbolt 3 Windows laptops, or M1 MacBooks. Q2: What kind of cable should I use to connect the dock to my laptop? A2: It’s recommended that you use the included Thunderbolt 4 cable. If you need to use a different cable (due to loss etc.), then another Thunderbolt 4 cable would also be compatible. Q3: I have a laptop with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, but I have 2 external displays that only have HDMI inputs. How do I use them with this dock? A3：You can use either a USB-C to HDMI cable or a USB-C to HDMI adapter to connect the dock to your external displays. Q4: How many external displays can this dock support and what are the maximum resolutions? A4: This dock supports connection to two external monitors via the USB-C Thunderbolt 4 downstream ports. Below are the maximum resolutions 1) Single monitor: Windows - 8K (7680 x 4320 @ 30Hz); macOS - 5K (5120 x 2880 @ 60Hz) 2) Dual monitor: 4K (3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz) Q5: The charging output of the dock is listed as 85W, which is lower than my MacBook charger’s output. Will the dock still be able to power my MacBook? A5:This dock supports up to 85W of charging via the Thunderbolt 4 upstream port (indicated by a computer icon). Power is dynamically distributed between this port and other power ports depending on the power requirements of connected devices. Therefore, sometimes the charging speed will be slower than the original laptop charger.

Review: Great, fast Thunderbolt port expander and power supply for MacBook Air - Used to expand Thunderbolt / USB-C ports on a MacBook Air, running Big Sur (it doesn't work on Catalina or earlier). I love it. At last I can have more than the miserable two ports Apple provided. Seems to work extremely well - the Mac runs fast even with the operating system on an external SSD. The power supply is very large, but I have measured its energy use and - even with the Dock added to my previous configuration - it uses less energy than the standard Mac power supply. It has a much better power factor too. So its greater size seems to reflect good engineering. What is more, when you turn it off at the mains, everything can stay plugged-in (together with all the peripherals) without draining the MacBook's battery at all. Previously I had to unplug everything or the battery would be nearly empty the next morning. The push-push power switch is a slight problem, being close to the ports. So it can get pressed inadvertently. I would have preferred a slider switch or a switch on the side of the unit.
Review: Works well with TB3 and does what it says - The Dock is and small and works somothly, almost daily use. In gerneral I would like the possibity to use it mobile, so it would be great that one can power the TB Dock with an USB-C Charger. The included power supply is quite bulky!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Why isn't this compatible with m1 macbook pro's? will this be added in a future firmware update?**
A: It is fully compatible (in my case at least). I've tried it out on a MacBook Pro M1 13'', a Mac Mini M1 and MacBook Pro M1 Max and it works well in all cases. For me I'm using 2x USB-C to DisplayPort cables to drive 2 4K monitors @60Hz, a USC-C to Ethernet for 2.5Gbps ethernet and an external SSD via USB all work perfectly and have been very stable for months.
Mine identifies as Device ID: 0x8498, Vendor ID: 0x291A just in case you have a different version.

**Q: could I buy two of these and daisy chain them together for extra ports?**
A: No, please do not daisy chain the docks.

**Q: Can i use it together with dell u2720q whose usb-c hub can deliver 90w power? if possible, how should i connect? my laptop is m1 macbook air.**
A: Please know you need to connect the mini thunderbolt 4.0 dock with your laptop via the provided Thunderbolt 4.0 cable. And for the dell u2720q, if you would like to connect it for display, you should use the USB C to USB C or USB C to HDMI cable which supports the video output depends on the interface on your monitor.

**Q: I have a dell xps 9520. has 2 tb4 ports. i only need this for extra tb4 ports. can i plug my oem charger into one tb4 port and this in the other?**
A: Thunderbolt 3 and 4 standards specify a requirement to facilitate pass-through charging. The Anker states its dock delivers up to 85watts to the host device. If your Dell does fully supports Thunderbolt 4 protocols you shouldn't need to use your OEM charger. Unless you actually need the full 40Gbps bandwidth for high-refresh rate 4K monitors, NVMe M.2 SSD drives etc., using a good quality usb-c 3.0 dongle may suffice as they deliver up to 20Gbps.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just works .. very reliable (compared to various unreliable thunderbolt 3 docks)
*by C***E on 7 December 2021*

Used with my new MacBook Pro 14'' 2021. Using it to drive 2x 4K 60Hz screens, 1 external USB SSD and gigabit ethernet (via USB-C Ethernet adapter). Have tried several other docks, including the Anker 13-in-1 Thunderbolt 3, and the CalDigit TS3 and nether worked reliably (either the disks would disconnect, or one of the screens wouldn't connect, would overheat or if connected one of the screen wasn't in 4K resolution). This has been plugged in for > 3 weeks without issue .. both screens always appear with full 3840x2160 (4K) @ 60Hz and don't rearrange etc, the disk has never unplugged etc. Buy this if you want a reliable solution for a docked Thunderbolt 3/4 machine.
