They are light weight, strong, and so far none have chipped or broken. We're seniors and appreciate their versatility and light weight. We use them in the microwave oven for reheating foods, and the very hottest sanitary setting on the dishwasher, but they warn the consumer to not use them on the stove top burners nor under the broiler. They don't look rich and luxurious, but we really like them anyway. **Q: are these dishes lead free?** A: According to the Corning has confirmed lead and cadmium in their dishware before 2005. In a statement to a customer question on safety and use of their vintage Corelle dinnerware circa 2000 (note: vintage is older than 20 years).
