Is this tape safe to use on such an old document or is another product better?** A: Functionally, this repair tape will work to repair the tear with minimal observable signs when properly applied. However, the decision whether or not to use it should be based more on the comparative value of the documents. If very valuable, it is probably worth considering consulting a document restoration expert. **Q: Would this be good for taping together a torn photograph from the back while still being able to read the text written underneath it?** A: I am not sure about using it for the photograph. Since it is transparent I would think it would be doable but I have not used it myself for a photograph. I don't think I would put the tape on the front of the photo incase it shows. You might do a test run on a photo or two that you don't want to keep and see how it works before trying it on important photos. **Q: Will this tape work on thin fabric? Would it then be washable?** A: This is a thin, transparent tape that can mend tears in book page such that the paper will still be completely flexible and the text can be read through it. I cannot see it holding up to fabric uses, particularly not washing. **Q: Does this have an adhesive?** A: Yes it does. It's a bit tricky. The tape appears to be solid and opaque. But if you peel away what the box calls 'the release paper' you will feel the adhesive on one side of the transparent tape. I found using the box to do this didn't work well. I used my finger nails to peel it apart which takes a few times to get the hang of it.
