Upon opening a packet, I noticed a dose smelling like it had already been opened. Turns out the tip was intact, but liquid product had leaked out the bottom and reacted with the purple dye in the plastic. The purple dye got on my hand and stained it for a day or two. If you've got a substantial infestation, it will take ten days for all the fleas and their progeny to die off before the anxiety of something crawling on you goes away. In my case, I waited a little too long between applications so it took a week before the fleas' interest in me went away. I live in a semi-arid region so mosquitoes and fleas are puny here. The four-foot will scratch but the fleas don't last long, less than two hours after coming back inside. In that respect, this insect killer product does what it says. As labeled, the active ingredient in these is imidacloprid. Imidacloprid is terribly unselective. It'll take out pollinators, lady beetles, squash bugs, fleas, flies, etc. I notice that the beneficial insects (and pests) are knocked out because I get less fruiting in my veggie garden. Hand pollination is a b*tch so keep that in mind if you garden.
