Because power consumption is always a concern on battery powered systems (sail boats, PV systems, etc.) the Night Watchman is designed to use an extremely small amount of power in standby mode (only 0.00015A or 0.15mA), yet it is capable of supplying up to 10 amps of load current. Completely waterproof for outdoor mounting (surface mount with 2 small screws - screws not included). Installation instructions included. The Night Watchman will turn 12 Volt DC incandescent, fluorescent or LED lights ON automatically in the evening within a half hour of sunset, and OFF in the morning within a half hour of sun rise. I've install these in the anchor light circuitry on every boat that I've had and I have never had any kind of issues or failures in years of cruising. Once I leave the dock I turn the anchor light on and this remembers to turn it off during the day saving me electricity and letting me be slack. These have all been mounted on that exterior of the boat without ever any issues!
