He gets frantic if he doesn't remember where he dropped it. We've had it for a few months and it has not broken down at all, even with our 75lb extreme chewer. It does, indeed, float (which he loves--he drops it in the pool for fun and stares at it until we fish it out), and it's not so heavy that it smashes the furniture in the house (or the glass in the sliders).
