He's not incapable of feeding himself, just a little messy and we didn't want him to stain his tux when he was eating. We decorated it to look like a tuxedo (tie, vest, jacket) and got our daughter, his favorite grandchild, to actually get him to wear it while eating. Overall, it's useful, a good size for an adult man, though not plastic lined on the back like some of the others out there.
