Unfortunately heavy walking sounds are almost impossible to negate since they are low frequency, bassy vibrations that are felt as much as they are heard, so I feel it my duty to temper your expectations. This is not to say that the fan sounds and white noise of the EVO won't help, because I know for a fact that these machines have helped people in similar situations, but I hesitate to make a determination that this machine is going to solve all of your problems with a noisy upstairs heavy walker due to the nature of low frequency sound vibrsations. What the EVO will do is raise the "sound floor" in your apartment, so that instead of hearing the loud thumps of your heavy walking neighbor against a silent backdrop, there will be a base-line blanket of white noise, so that when the thumping of the heavy footsteps occurs, it is less bothersome. I wish I would have known how good this is before, it'd have saved me from years of misery. It drowns the noise of screaming children outside in the daytime, so you can focus working and shouting drunkards in the night, so you can sleep. I do need to put the volume quite high to drown the noise of the children as they're VERY loud, but then the sounds are almost completely muted. I like the compact size and white color too. Maybe would be nice to have more nature sounds. Though the basic fan sounds seem to work the best for canceling out noises.
