A paint stick is much wider, although thinner, than a piece of shoe mold or quarter round. When the piece you're cutting gets "longer " from the pivot point of the shears to the tip, you lose leverage at the outer edge. Paint sticks that I use are maple, and so a little bit on the hard side. My guess is yes, if you have enough grip. a small, fine-toothed backsaw and a plastic or home made miter box would be easier and more accurate I think. **Q: Would this cut MDF boards?** A: No no. It is designed to cut things like shoe or quarter round molding. It will cut those moldings made out of MDF, PVC or pine. It's marginal on Oak or other hard wood moldings. If it won't fit in the shears completely it will not cut it. I'd say max 3/4" x 3/4" , and again, best in softer materials. I have forced it on Oak shoe molding in a pinch, but it wasn't pretty. **Q: Can this tool work on lead came for stained glass?** A: Although I have no experience with lead cane, I am 100% sure it would work really well. The blade is tough, rigid and would make really accurate mitered cuts in something like lead caning. To be honest, I would think they might be wise to try and market them for that craft. While they struggle a bit with hard, solid wood shoe mold or quarter round, they work really well with either MDF or PVC moldings. Good tool, and mine came with a spare blade or two as I recall. Cutting lead caning, I doubt you would ever wear one out or dull it. **Q: Where is this made?** A: My guess is Pacific rim somewhere.
