I'm rating it 5 stars for what it is. An expensive fan that definitely outperforms most common household fans . The "silent night" mode that is the most quiet barely produces much wind . So unfortunately, we will not be using that mode even tho we wanted a truly silent night time fan . However, the other modes that produce more wind are noticeably more silent then our Walmart stock $20 dollar fan. But not massively more quiet . The quality is top notch . Sturdy, heavy, user friendly, easy to assemble . And if you turn it up to the max then it produces a lot more wind than our stock standard fan . Although when it's going full blast , it is still more quiet then our standard fan and gives more wind.... It is not quiet enough for my liking to be on at night, at max speed. We bought this because I wanted to be able to hear things at night ... Ie: kids or dog in trouble). But bottom line is I said to my fiance that we are keeping it. She needs a fan and I want something more quiet then what we had . So it boils down to your purpose on what you want this for . If you have lots of $$ and want just a solid fan then it's great . If you want something more powerful then an average fan, but don't want to spend Dyson $$ on it, then it's a great alternative. But if you need something whisper quiet.. then I don't believe this is it. It's great compared to regular fans, but at what cost? It's about 8 times more expensive then a regular fan and I personally don't believe it's real quiet night time mode produces enough wind. But it has 4 other modes that produce well and are still more quiet then a regular fan... I'm not buying a Dyson... So I feel this is the best I'll get cause I would never spend more on a fan, that's for sure.
