"Appears" to be a resilient piece of some sort of poly, "glass-like" material. Oil and grease etc., wipe right off without damage. By Far - much better than the cheapo glass ones being peddled.Also bought the upgrade LED bulb for this Maglite 4 D LED Upgrade Bulb C/D High Power - for a great combination to make a light that's brighter, shines farther and hardly drains the big D batteries.
