Review: mic seems good, shock mount broke right away.. past return window by 2 days. Broke on first setup - Great mic, but wing bolt for tightening shock mount broke right away. Shock mount is now useless. Looks like bad quality bubbly bolt on the inside now that is broken( cast iron)? And was rearranging studio when item arrived, so past return window before i set it up and broke it. ( don't even want to return i like the mic.., but will have to buy a shock mount now:( ) Edit( replaced wing bolt with a 10cent socket head cap screw. Use an allen key to tighten now, not worth returning mic for a broken 10 cent bolt) good mic, cheapish shock mount

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I want to use this mic for an instrument, would it work OK?**
A: Actually 3/4" is not large - and it's the same sensor that's in the 991 stick mic.  
It is an ideal mic for acoustic instruments - which means a totally flat response in the mid range frequencies of which vocal is only an example.  Let that be your guide.  I have no experience with any other use.  Same is true for the stick mic.

**Q: Which one of these allow me to connect to a computer via usb? The midnight blue or the champagne?**
A: You need a audio interface and xlr cable for this microphone

**Q: Is it normal for this mic to have exposed wiring? I mean the bottom cap in the mic to come off easily?**
A: It is very easy to open by hand, especially since the included custom mic clip nut engages with one of the parts that can unscrew from the main body. 

With the clip-mount nut removed, the bottom half of the large body will unscrew from the upper mesh-covered half. The bottom body is a cowling that protects the circuitry. I would suggest to MXL that they may want to include a few more threads on the connection between the upper and lower bodies, and to sell a high-quality shock mount and possibly re-think the threading of the mic clip-nut to the connector bracket that is attached to the upper section. If it threaded only to the lower section, then operating that mic clip nut might interact less accidentally with the overall mic assembly.

**Q: Will a samson mk-10 mic stand hold this microphone? if not, can someone tell me where to get the correct size mic clip?**
A: The microphone comes with a shock mount and mic clip that will both fit any standard microphone stand including your Samson.

I'm really impressed with the MXL 990 condenser microphone.
