The picture shows silver, but some reviews say they got black** A: Black this is garbage. It does not hold an edge for ten minutes. Spend a little bit more and get a car better product. **Q: What material is the sheath made of? I need to paint it black so I want to know what it is.** A: Paper thin canvas. Don't buy this piece of garbage. Get the Ontario Knife version for another $10, and you will be amazed at the difference. The Coleman machete feels like a child's toy by comparison (I own both). **Q: how long is the blade?** A: I am not sure but I believe it is 16"-18". I would not exactly classify it as a blade. Perhaps it is a chunk of dull steel. It does not hold an edge for even two or three minutes. I was not able to cut anything with it. I bought another machete and use the scabbard that come with this one for the real machete that I bought. Do yourself a favor and don't spend the money. **Q: what color is the blade is it sliver or black?** A: Mine was black.
