It has usable light even at moderately lit room, in the day or at night with 2 Phillips 9W bulbs. I have tested it. I saved my money on the red. It's definitely more than sufficient for my usecase. But I am telling you, this product won't disappoint you in a moderately lit room, made my job very easy in fixing vertical light fixtures and IKEA borderless mirrors and they came out perfectly and I could do it fast at atlast 90 percent of the job is alignment.
