Review: A very good starting point - A Surprisingly Capable Enclosure for a Real Fabrication Project I bought this enclosure for a fairly demanding home-built control system, not simply to house a small PCB. I needed something I could actually machine, drill, modify, and populate with full-size industrial components. The enclosure has been excellent for that purpose. The panels are substantial enough to machine cleanly, and I was able to fabricate custom openings and mounting points without the material feeling flimsy or difficult to work with. For example, I machined a custom clearance opening and four mounting holes to install an exterior-grade NEMA 5-15 receptacle. I also machined openings for a PID controller, E-stop, fuse, cable entry, and thermocouple feed-through. The panels held their dimensions well and produced clean, precise results. I'm still completing the build, but with the components mounted, the enclosure already looks like a proper piece of equipment rather than a generic project box. It has enough room to separate high-voltage AC wiring from low-level thermocouple wiring, which was important for my application. The photos show the enclosure as I actually fabricated and populated it, rather than simply photographing the box straight out of the package. That's probably the best endorsement I can give it: this is a box you can actually build something substantial with. For anyone doing serious DIY electronics, controls, instrumentation, or industrial-style projects at home, this enclosure gives you a very good starting point.

I made a template for what all I wanted to put in the case and chose the one that suited my needs. The cases are made out of 20 Gauge aluminum (0.812 mm or.03196”). The aluminum is thick enough to be sturdy but also thin enough that you can make cut-outs in it without much difficulty. I used a tool called a nibbler and a file for the fine work. The case has two reinforcement pieces of angle iron (probably not iron but I am not sure what it is) that go from the front to the back at the top of the case. This probably adds to the sturdiness of the case – great idea. I have just a few cautions, and this is no way meant to denigrate the case. The case is great! There is an old adage that says “measure twice – cut once”. I modified it to “measure twice, mark guide lines, measure guide lines, measure the device you are making the cut-out for and verify the guide lines are correct, then cut the metal”. I have to admit I didn’t follow this to a tee on the first case I bought. I ruined the front panel. I have been working on this project for quite a while and wanted it to look good so I bought another case. They are reasonably priced so the replacement case was not a significant hit to my budget. I did buy a piece of sheet metal from Lowes and a can of spray paint (Gloss Sail Blue Spray Paint) . Both items together were less than $10. The sheet metal from Lowes was big enough make several panels. I have also used Gloss Burgundy Spray Paint for the front panel of a power supply I built. See Pictures. I have completed a couple other projects using various case sizes. The cases can hold a surprising number of components. The seller has excellent customer service! I asked a question on-line and got an answer the next day. Also, they ship very quickly.

Exactly as advertised. Good value. Sized accuracy. Thickness and sturdiness what you’d expect at this price point. My only gripe is mine was missing two screws. I was able to adapt and happy it’s purchase overall.
