Finally a happy kitty with clean ears!
Like many who reviewed before me, I saw two Vets, got a diagnosis of ear mites from the first, a clean bill of ear health from the second, and still had a kitty with ears that were oozing brown/red wax. We had our new kitten for about six weeks and almost every day since the day we got her she was being tortured with something new being put into her ears. First for mites then possible infection. I was in the process of the vinegar/water thing that a lot of other people used and had already used that for two weeks. I think it was working, but I was worried that it wasn't enough to clear up whatever was going on with my four-month old kitten's ears. Wax was still clumping up on the hair outside of her ears and it really bothered her when I put that in her ears. I crossed my fingers and started the Zymox (without Hydrocortisone). Three days and her ears looked fantastic, still a bit of wax, but so much better. By day six I was sure I was done treating her and that she was cured. Day seven....tons of gooey gross stuff came out of her ears and I thought it was no longer working! I was so frustrated and ready to give up. I decided to keep going with the treatment for at least 14 days to give it a fair chance, but I was sure I would be back at the Vet by then. I'm happy to say that our kitten has been done with the treatment for one week and her ears have never looked better. I cleaned her ears on day 15 and just a tiny bit of wax came out the next day. Now I don't see any wax at all. I'm hopeful that her ear woes won't return, but if they do I have plenty of this stuff left to start giving her weekly treatments if need be. I purchased the 4 oz bottle and used very little of it for my small kitten's ears for the 15 days that I used it. I'm so relieved that this worked for me and my kitten Kinzy.2nd Update: Sad to say that I have to update this review two weeks later and state that my kitty's ear infection seems to be returning. For about three days I have noticed that she is slowly producing more and more brown/red wax again, just in her left ear. Today she started scratching her ear. I'm going to put the Zymox in her ears once or twice a week to see if it keeps the infections at bay, but it looks like this is going to be an on-going issue that we have to deal with. From what I've read some animals just have this issue for life. The good news is that I can see the infection returning and hopefully take care of it before it becomes a full-blown issue for her. I plan to put Zymox in her ears for the next few days and then try putting it in weekly. I'll try to remember to update this review to note whether this works for my cat.3rd Update: For anyone dealing with an on-going ear problem like my kitty's.... after her ear issue returned I put Zymox in her ears two nights in a row and it cleared right up again. It's been about four days since I did the mini-treatment and her ears are still clean. I didn't fill up her ear canal this time, just a drop in each ear. Just one ear seems to have the continuing problem. I plan to just continue to put the drops in once a week and I think that will be what needs to be done in my kitty's case. All in all, this product worked better than anything I was given by two different Vets and even though I'll have to use it long term, I'm very happy to have it! Still five stars.

Very satisfied with this product...so is my dog Sammy!
I waited a few weeks to see if the reviews I read before I purchased this product were true. My dog Sammy is a Black Lab and has had chronic ear infections since he jumped into a friends swimming pool when he was 2 years old...I have spent literally hundreds, if not thousands on Vet visits, cleaning solutions, and medications in the past 10 years. The fact is, some veterinarians want you to keep coming back for visits, just like Medical Dr's often do with people...more money for them and your pet continues to suffer with pain and be uncomfortable unnecessarily, and they call it "chronic"... Well I'm pleased to say that Zymox Otic works! I wish I knew this product was available 10 years ago, but then again, I trusted my Vets and I believed them. I highly recommend this product for anyone who has a dog that has been diagnosed by a "money hungry" Veterinarian that sees dollar signs instead of treating and curing your pet from a so-called "chronic ear infection"! I'm not saying all Vets are in it for the money, but there are many that are! I'm sure there are Vets out there that care about the well being of your pet, however, most Vets know that your pet is like a family member and you will do anything to cure them from an illness, save, or prolong your pets life, and the skies the limit when it comes to the cost... As a pet lover, this is a weakness I can understand, we all love our four legged friends! You would expect a knowledgeable Vet to diagnose your pet after seeing thousands of pets previously with the same symptoms without having to test for everything under the sun! I also believe that the amount of medication they supply at a Vet Visit is not enough to totally clear up the infection in the first place,(in my case 1 1/2 oz bottles), and this is why I recommend buying the 4, or 8 oz bottle of Zymox Otic to be sure you drastically limit, or totally eliminate the possibility of the ear infections from returning in just a few weeks. Most Vets charge for a visit and exam just to get a refill of the medication which I believe is not needed if your pet has been diagnosed with a chronic condition, furthermore at $40 dollars for a 1 1/2 oz bottle of ear medication...you can see how the cost can get out of control! Moreover, most of these Vets will not give you a prescription needed to get the same medicine for cheaper online, (IE: PetMeds)requires a prescription! Been there, done that! I'm done with the rant on the "bad apple" Vets out there, so all I can say is "do your homework", use the Internet and take care of your best friend! Getting back to the topic...There is one thing we must remember though...going from my experience, you must carefully, and constantly clean your dogs ears if he, or she is prone to ear infections, I use cotton balls and Q-Tips...(remember...you cant go too far into your dogs ears with q-tips or you can damage the eardrums, and cause injury or permanent deafness!) I suggest if you want to do ear cleanings on a regular basis, which is what you should be doing if your dog is prone to ear infections or loves water and loves to get wet...Do what I did...get a diagram of a dogs ear, and ear canal to prevent hurting your buddy! By the way I purchased the 4 oz. bottle "without" hydro-cortisone to treat the badly infected and inflamed ears first...treated the ears for about 4-5 days until the swelling went down and then started to remove the dirty wax, and disgusting brown crud from the infected ears using cotton balls and q-tips. It's been a few weeks now...and Sam and I are happy campers...I plan to keep up with his ear treatments as I also purchased the 8 oz bottle of Zymox Otic "with" hydro-cortisone for preventive care...Good luck...and remember..."Dogs Rock"! :o)
