Its a simple, brilliant device - does a great job of sucking the sand out of my hot tub. But you do need to have a drop off near by so that the hose can create a syphon for suction. **Q: Would like to know outer diameter of discharge hose?** A: It looks like 1 inch. **Q: Does it have a rubber end- so as to not scratch a black acrylic spa tub?** A: Hello! If you want to use it to drain a spa it will take a while and stops before the last few inches of water.
