I do not know if they have any lead in them. They appear to be all brass with the exception of the clamp fasteners and the post and it's fastener. I am happy with the connectors I received and they seemed to be better quality than the similar connectors I've seen in "big box" stores **Q: can the stud to contact the battery cable be removed and/or replaced?** A: Yes, the "stud" is just a normal hex bolt. In fact there is nothing holding the hex part of the bolt from dropping by gravity. But the hex part is inside a hex slot so no need to have 2 tools to tighten it. Note also the stud size is 10mm so be sure your cable lug size is big enough. The nut's size should be compatible with the 5/16" stud nut so no need for another size socket to tighten the cable. **Q: Is the stud made of steel or is it stainless steel?** A: I don’t think they are stainless. Zinc plated mild steel probably. I’ve had these on my truck for over two years and they still look like new. Very happy and would buy again.
