In other words, I need razors that can get the job done on tough whiskers but don't leave my face looking (or feeling) like a post-apocalyptic wasteland. I have tried most of the current Gillette Fusion blades and handles, and here is my breakdown of three of the more recent models:First, the Gillette Fusion:This was the first Gillette razor to have 5 blades. Honestly, I can't say I noticed a significant difference between the Fusion and my previous 3- or 4-blade razor, but it certainly seemed to do an adequate job. I used these every day for several years with no real complaints.Second, the Fusion Proglide Manual with Flexball Technology:This was the first razor I ever used that was a noticeable improvement over its predecessors, and it's the razor I still use today. How is it better? It cuts my whiskers shorter with each pass than the original Fusion model, and I have to make fewer passes to get a smooth face. The result is that my face feels less raw afterwards, probably due to less physical skin irritation. So what specifically makes the Proglide better? Here's my personal analysis:1) According to Gillette, the first four of the five blades are actually thinner than those in the Fusion model, and they have a "low-resistance coating" that causes less skin tug. Also, there is a "blade stabilizer" along the sides of the razors that help maintain optimal spacing of the blades. I can't claim to know how the low-resistance coating works, but I can say that these blades do cause less irritation to my face. I don't know whether it's the thinner blades, the stabilizers, or the coating (or all three!), but something clearly works well here.2) The "lubrastip" (that greenish gel-like strip at the top of the cartridge) is "enhanced." I don't know how this strip is different chemically from the one on the original Fusion, but I have noticed that it leaves less residue on my face. The lubricating strip on the original Fusion cartridges left behind an invisible residue which made my face feel slimy until I rinsed it with lots of water. The Fusion Proglide cartridges don't do this as much.3) The "Flexball Technology" -- "Flexball" appears to be a fancy term for the hinge located on the Proglide handle just beneath the cartridge holder which allows the cartridge to pivot to follow the curves of your face. Actually, the name is perhaps a little misleading because the cartridge doesn't actually swivel in all directions (nor would you want it to!); it just pivots back and forth. I can't say that this feature has made a huge difference to me, but perhaps that is because I shaved for so many years without a hinged razor that I got used to navigating all the curves manually instead of letting the blade pivot. I suspect I would appreciate this feature more if I were new to the world of shaving.Finally, the Fusion Proglide Power (with or without Flexball Technology):The Power version of the Proglide adds vibrations: powered by a AAA battery, the handle actually vibrates when you turn it on, supposedly reducing friction and helping the blade glide across your skin more easily. Honestly, I just found the vibrations annoying. I'm sure this is a matter of personal preference, but I don't like the feel of shaving with a vibrating object -- it just makes me feel like I have less control over the razor, and I didn't notice a difference in the closeness or quality of the shave I got with this razor (and I used it for an entire week).Bottom line: in the Gillette Fusion series...Features I LIKE:- thinner blades- low-resistance blade coating- blade stabilizer- enhanced lubrastrip(All of these are found on the Fusion Proglide, with or without the Flexball)Features I don't mind but don't need:- Flexball (hinge)Features I do NOT like:- Vibrations (i.e. the Power series)So, my personal choice of razor is the Fusion Proglide, with or without the Flexball. It has all of the features I want and nothing I don't.Hope this helps! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's the best of the razors I've tried *by S***3 on May 1, 2023* These Proglide razors are expensive compared to the other brands, I can't even say competition because they have no competition. I used to use these and stopped for a while since they were more expensive but I just shaved with them today and had no issues. I hope they hold out for a bit and I don't have to buy them often.I've tried the Amazon brand (nope), and I've tried Harry's (again, nope). The Amazon brand and the Harry's razors pulled my facial hair and also didn't have the nice trimmer on the back of the blade. They're less expensive but just don't do as good a job.The Proglide razors are more expensive but there is a reason.
