I use it on any piece I paint black, or if I want to get an antique look on a creamy color. It also makes red look very deep and rich. I just love this dark wax so easy to work with. **Q: Dining table stained & finished with polyurethane, will this protect top better than just adding more coats of polyurethane?** A: Unlike the conventional "wisdom" repeated here, you do not need to sand between coats of polyurethane, it does not mechanically bond. It always solvent bonds. The reason they tell you to sand between coats is to remove any oil, wax or other debris that will interfere with the chemical bond. If you have layers of polyurethane delaminating, you've done something wrong. Either the surface was contaminated or you mixed an oil and water based finish. It can also happen if you don't allow layers to cure between coats. Adding wax will offer a layer of protection but for most things, polyurethane is a superior finish for protecting wood in most cases. **Q: does this work like the Annie Sloan's dark paste wax?** A: It is a little harder to buff out and doesn't get as dark as Annie with 1 coat that's why I add a little black paint to mine.. 2 coats and it looks good .. if you want to actually see dark pop with little woolrk I would stick with Annie it's less work. **Q: I bought a blue painted dresser, and wonder if the dark or light Minwax would be better. It is a medium hue blue, not dark but not light. Please help!** A: If you want the dresser to stay the same blue I would use the light wax. The dark wax may make the piece darker than you want. Great product, and easy to apply. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review *by C***R on 21 June 2016* I've become a bit of a furniture upcycling addict and I've been doing a lot of work with home made chalk paint. Because of this process I also have to use something as a protectant and the finishing wax works great. I didn't even realize Minwax made it in a tinted wax until I got on here looking for the regular wax that doesn't have any color to it. Here's where things get awesome. With the chalk painting I distress the corners and other places on furniture to bring out the natural (or stained) wood underneath. In the past with the regular wax I actually added a dark (ebony, I think) stain to it to help keep the wood coming through a rich dark color. Let me tell you, trying to mix the stain with the wax was a HUGE pain. I saw this in the special dark and thought I'd give it a try since it seems as if it was going to do exactly what I had been wasting time doing and converting a two step process down to one step. Bought it, tried it, and it was AWESOME! It went on smooth and buffed beautifully. I'll never go back to the hard way I was doing it before! On a side note, with the furniture I did before - I turned a buffet into a bathroom vanity and we've been using it for about 9 months.. The cabinet still looks beautiful and the wax did a great job at protecting it.
