It is all solid welded construction, except for the 2 inch square receiver bar, it attaches with two 1/2 bolts. It only takes a minute to attach the bar. This cargo carrier does cost more than most others, but I was glad to pay the price to own this high quality and well built carrier. You are getting allot of aluminum for the money. It's really hard for me to find anything about it that I don't like. One suggestion is to include stainless steel hardware instead of the plated steel hardware, that way, it would be 100 percent corrosion resistant material. But that is such a small point, almost not worth mentioning. I most highly recommend this carrier. I wanted a product I could buy once and not have to replace after 5 years. The packaging was excellent and it arrived in pristine condition. The welds are full and great quality, there is an obvious attention to detail with the manufacturing. It is certainly β€œoverbuilt” which you would want in a product like this. I tried to order a similar product but I was very disappointed in the build quality. That is not the case with this carrier.
