It's to be used to help thicken your hair and also help hair growth. I tried this one and the Biotin one and neither worked well at all. They were all a waste of money. If you want hair growth order some Biotin 10,000 mcg...plus Keratin. Be patient, it takes about 6 months to see new hair growth, but this supplement works. I take it every morning with breakfast. Also, for helping immediately to thicken your hair I recommend Bumble & Bumble (BB) Thickening spray. I am 64 and this is by far the very best product I have ever used. It's expensive but you only use a tiny bit each time. I suffered hair loss and my DR. had me start taking Biotin supplement and it worked. My bald spot was almost completely gone in a few months. It will help you if you stick with it and don't give up and all of the B&B products are terrific for helping. I don't even use this Nioxin anymore. It's going in the trash. I hope you try the Biotin supplement and the B&B products. Good Luck! **Q: does it contain dimethicone?** A: I do not see dimethicone listed in the ingredients. **Q: Do you need to used the hold kit? Or just the pump?** A: I just use the thickening spray like regular hair spray. **Q: Do i replace the foam spray in the kit with this? Or when does this fit into the process?** A: I don't know what's in the kit but I wash my hair with Nioxin #4, then condition with Nioxin #4 scalp therapy. Then when I'm out of the shower with my hair still wet I spray the thickener on it. When it drys I brush, curl, and use hair spray on my hair. Only problem is, it is EXTREMELY messy. Messy as in, look at your counters and your shirt after applying/styling and wearing throughout the day. Looks like grains of salt/sawdust EVERYWHERE. Don’t ever wear black when using this product. But most people don’t care about that kind of stuff.
