The collar goes at the far end of the plug and the washer at the wall end. As you tighten the hex the clarr is pulled towards the surface and expands the plug. At least that what it looks like in the manus pics. I will find out soon enough ! **Q: can you use it on brick walls? the description says hollow walls only** A: I have put up 2 floating shelves in a solid brick and stone wall using these. They are very, very solid fixings. The shelves have been rock solid for 8 months. They were also easier than other designs to attach the shelf as you do not need to rebate the wood to get a flush fit to the wall. The most important step is drilling the holes in the wood and wall level. Good luck! **Q: Do these have eccentric adjusters - like others - to line up the shelf holes?** A: I'm going to say no.
