    Excellent book for learning Mandarin

I think this is a good introduction book for learning Mandarin.  What I like about this book compared to some others is that it has a lot of listening excercises on pronunciation and tones which is key to learning Mandarin.  Of course you will need to buy the corresponding tapes/MP3s for these exercises.  In addition the dialogue is pretty short so it's not overwhelming and good for basic introduction.  I think this book takes it's time to teach new dialogue and vocabulary which is key to learning a new language.

This is for the character workbook, not the audio cd workbook.Breaks the hanzi into strokes, you repeat in the little boxes with grids. The tried and true method kids have been doing forever.
