This adjustment is mostly difficult for my four year old, James, who believes if she whines, "she have to go potty" and seemly so, he should simply opek door and let her out. (And for those who love to parent and pet own for others, yes i underatand the saftey concerns of both my dog running loose, AND the fact that my four year old can open door, including doors locked by deadbolt.. I can assure you, both issues are being monitored closely, however as a single mom of 4, sometimes, I do have to pee, or shower, or run upstairs to put away laundry ect) Now, in the city, due to laws and ordinances, as well as for general saftey reasons all Dogs must be on a leash. It hurts my heart that Dolly may no longer run freely but she is family and I can't bear to part with her. So..... I created a plan of action to with what seemed to be a valid solution to my problem of "country dog 🐢 in the city who wants to run". After reading good reviews, I purchased this 50 foot leash, and a seemly strong harness for her, as often she tends to sneak out of her collar as well. (we arent permitted to use a tie out)she is a smart little bugger.... Now, after arriving home last night from work, the weather was beautiful πŸŒ‡, and i was excited to have received my amazon packages... I happily placed harness on my dog, I ordered pink, cause she's a girl so...... πŸ˜‚πŸ™„, she looked so cute, both her and I were increasingly excited ans curious as to how this would change our daily routine. I took her outside, to the middle area of our large yard between apartment complex and road. There is approximately 130 foot distance from my back door to road (thanks to this leash, I now can give an accurate estimate) . I unrolled 50 feet of sturdy, seemingly well made leash, and figured I'll chill here, she will walk around and this will be how she potties now, as well as gets the feel of freedom she desires so much. Seems like a good plan, right? No. No. No. A VERY valuable lesson was learned. If your dog is kinda stronger than you, and SUPER FAST, AND loves cats.... ***pay attention this important***.... when said dog catches a visual of not one but THREE cats across the street: allowing her take off with the uneducated notion that it's cool, you got the leash, Is. Not. A. Valid. Plan. So... she ran. Hard. Strong. Fast. God she is so healthy. For a brief moment i was so proud of myself for only buying her the very best foods.... and I'm sitting there, my end of 50 feet, wrapped around my left hand... watching her haul assin..... a little "haha" in my heart cause she thinks she loose, but I got dis leash. Well evidently when your dog reaches the end of 50 feet,while Running approximately 987 miles per hour; when she reaches the end of the rope, you can't really stop her... at all. It is very similar if i had to guess, as having Clint Eastwood pull out his six shooter and vlow off your hand. I mean if i had to guess. So.... she almost broke 4 of my fingers, and I rolled about 7 seven feet down the hill, digging my feet in tryna get some traction... (kinda wish there was video evidence, and was quite disappointed when my awesome neighbors said they missed it too πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚) I lost all balance and after getting my bearings, realized, not only was 50 feet entirely too much leash for her and I, but also, in my excitement I never really made sure the harness was properly fitted and tight enough. So there I sat, covered in dirt, grass, and leaves... holding 50 feet of dead leash, with a super cute pink harness attached to it, lying beside the road, as my sweet Dolly ran (yes loose again) barking frantically behind the apts across the street, hoping to "catch a cat" (we have a cat inside at home, so protesters, again, Dolly means no harm, when she gets excited over a cat, she wants to play, because our cat Cash and her are similar to Tom and Jerry... cept it's a cat and a dog)... Im hoping I don't receive a second notice (3 is grounds for eviction)... We are back to regularly walking schedule. I wrote rhis review to let Amazon know how I disappointed I am in my purchase. Hands/fingers getting rope burn. This is not due to the type of material, it is not due to any coating on the material, it is not due to the length of material. Honestly, I can't think of any material that will not give you a friction burn if it zips over your skin fast enough. I even got a burn myself on this once, but rather than blame the material, the manufacturer, the neighbor (who threw the ball before I was ready to let go), or the dog, I blamed myself for not anticipating and letting go fast enough to avoid getting burned.Here's how you avoid getting rope burn. Use your normal leash until you are ready to let your dog run wild. Then, hook up the lead, unhook your leash, DROP THE LEAD to the ground, after ensuring that enough of it is firmly attached to you as the anchor. If you like to keep the slack out of the lead (if the dog runs all the way out, and circles back to you), remember not to keep it in your hand. Pull the slack out, and again drop the slack.If you are the type who likes to keep holding the lead, and feeding the slack out by hand, then there is no getting around it...you will have to get a good pair of gloves.2. Easy for the dog to chew through. I liked reading this complaint. You have to remember, this is a LEAD, not a tie-out. This product is meant to be used with supervision. Never leave your dog attached to this unsupervised, and if you see your dog start chewing on it, then redirect his attention by giving him his chew toy or some attention.3. Dog pulled it out of my hands: Ok, as with the above, that's not a problem with this lead, it's that the owner was being inattentive. This is a 50' lead, that means your dog is going to be able to build quite a bit of speed (and therefore power) running to the end of it. If you cannot keep a good grip just using the end loop, then put your wrist through the loop, and wrap it around your wrist several times to ensure it won't be yanked out of your grasp. If you cannot do this, or your dog is still able to pull it away from you, then your dog is not ready to be on a lead at this point, and you need to spend some more time training him.4. The lead is too long: Ok, I only saw one negative comment using this, but it made my day. Folks, this is a 50' lead. Says so right in the name. If you can't quite picture how long 50' is, try to picture three 4 door sedans bumper to bumper, or eight men laying down in a line. 50' is slightly longer than that.Now, on to my own thoughts about the product:This is a very good lead for the price. I have a 2 year old boxer male, who weighs 55 lbs and has a lot of puppy in him still. He absolutely loves the freedom and range this lead gives him. His little girlfriend next door loves it too. The lead is lightweight to carry, and can be rolled up easily, and is quite strong. If it can hold a 55 lb exuberant boxer running full speed, it should be able to hold most dogs.
