Review: Helped me become a REAL mom. - I was looking for a home printer that prints 4x6 prints so I don't have to squint at tiny photos of my son in albums (that I will eventually compile, I know, bad millenial mom) AND frame some of those awesome photos. I had an LG pocket photo printer, though worked well, was kinda pricey in terms of paper and definitely printed SMALL photos for my 34-year old ageing eyes. Yes, I wear glasses. Those tiny photos are good enough for tacking on to your office cubicle, but not really good for framing for the living room. The quality is also so-so. If you like Instagram filters, yes. But now that I'm trying to be more adult and responsible, I have outgrown its purpose. So, I went on a hunt for a home printer that prints photos wirelessly from phones, that can print beyond credit card sized momentos (very specific). I do own an HP office printer. It is 5 years old and still works well. I do not want to bankrupt myself printing photos of my son through said printer, even with their ink subscription. Their app also don't work well with the phone. And because of how horrible printers are, I do not want to mess with buying another home office printer until mine dies. It's like rolling the dice, you won't know if the next one will be a bust. I focused my search on photo printers and narrowed it down to the Selphy and this gem. I can't believe that at 2022, when humans have made rovers to get to Mars, and made mRNA vaccines to fight a pandemic... we only have 2 sad options for this particular niche. What I didn't like about the Selphy was it wasn't true 4x6 in size. I did not want to have any cropping errors or specific albums/frames not fitting the photos. Mostly, I didn't like the picture quality. I have seen how the Selphy performs since it's the most common printer used in wedding picture booths in my home country. Though good enough, it's not a vibrant and realistic as it should be. I also don't like the sides of the photos having "tear" uneven ends. Enter this printer. Holy crap. My phone photos look so realistic. Coming from a simple Google Pixel 5a, unedited photos (apart from those edits the default Camera algorithm applied to balance exposure, etc) look NICE. Skin looks real. I WANT to frame the photos, which is what my goal was. Setup was a breeze. Just remove all the plastic you see. Pop the ink in. Type your wifi info on the printer (OMG it worked on 1 try!). Install the app on your phone... and Viola! You are printing your photos. From my phone, I can easily click "Share" to the app and do different layouts if I want to collage, or just print as is. It literally does all I want. And I can't believe this printer is so OLD, and no one has updated this thing. The app has been updated yes, but the hardware of this printer remains the same. Printers are lagging in innovation, but I guess this Epson doesn't need much improvement if it does what it needs to do. The ink and paper are affordable too. No more using "I have to go to CVS to pick up prints, UGH" as an excuse to procrastinate on printing photos of my son. I am now a TRUE mother. I have a photo of my son in my wallet, after almost 2 years of him being alive. Thank you, Epson PictureMate.
Review: Outstanding photo printer - I have used this printer for almost nine years of constant scrapbooking, and it has been excellent. I use Epson ink and photo paper only. The 5x7 prints are great for frames, and the 4x6 are perfect for my pocket pages. I also can print two 2x3 on one piece paper. The prints are bright and very high quality. So far, none have faded or deteriorated in any way. After 8 years of constant use, the printer had to go back to Epson for a new ink absorber. Epson makes it very easy by sending you a shipping box and label and then shipping it back for a reasonable fee. Most non-scrapbookers will ever get to this point. I would highly recommend this printer.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this require special paper like the cannon selphy printers or will any 4x6 photo paper work?**
A: This printed just fine on my 4x6 envelope with normal weighted paper.
I used the Canon 4x6 400 pack (large red box) for $20 for our Photo Booth (@RendezVooth) and its just fine. Set the setting to Glossy.

There is a marginal increase in quality with super high quality epson or even luster or matte paper but you’ll be pixel peeping at that point.

**Q: What is a "memory card" why does this printer require one, and is it not noted in the description?**
A: It is referring to the SD card to be used to print your pictures from. I use the SD Card in my Nikon D300s camera when I shoot pictures and then I insert the SD Card into the slot on the Epson printer and select which pictures I want to print. The printer does not require a Memory card to function except when you are pulling a picture from the SD Card. I hope this makes sense to you.

**Q: Is the quality comparison to a basic hp All in one printer**
A: No, this printer is much better photo quality than my Epson WF-3640. The photos are better than Walmart prints, too.

**Q: How long does the starter ink cartridge last? Or about how many photos?**
A: I got slightly over 100 4 x 6 prints using the highest quality setting. This use more ink and takes considerably longer to print, but the photo looks so much better that it is worth it for me.

Note however, that I print in spurts. I literally will use up one full cartridge of ink in one sitting. I'm sure the number of prints will reduce (not sure by how many) if I were to spread the printing across a 6-12 months period.
