## Description

The Klein Tools' 50-Foot Steel Fish Tape is perfect for wire runs associated with light commercial, residential and voice-data-video installations. The optimized housing and handle design decreases payout effort and reduces binding. The large handle allows for a firm, steady grip as you pull the tape from the housing. The tape features laser-etched descending markings placed at every foot. These markings allow you to accurately measure the depth of conduit runs and determine the amount of tape left to pay out.

Review: Works like a fish charm!! - Easy to use, works great!! I have a home closet project, bought cabinets from Ikea. They look awesome. But, after getting the last shelf in, I turned to the last part, installing under shelf lighting. Pro tip - if you buy cabinets and lights from Ikea, INSTALL THE CORDS BEFORE SECURING TO THE WALL!!! So, after several home remedy ideas, it occurred to me to buy a fish snake thingee, to see if that would help with getting the cable from the junction box to the light. Basically I have a small hole drilled in the back panel, and need to go several feet to the junction box. I needed something to snake along the back and then make a turn at the corner (there is about and inch between the cabinet wall and the closet wall. Lo and behold, this works like a charm. The only thing I had to do was adjust the tip, because the back of the cabinet was very narrow, and I didn't want to drill more holes, but it would only snake up or down, until I took one loop off the end (it does not affect anything, the metal is very sturdy). 10 seconds later, cord installed. Now, only 10 more to go, but I feel much better about the situation. Meaning, it went 20 inches and then made a 90 degree turn, going 22 inches, and I easily attached the cord to the end, then pulled it back. It can stick on the corner, but a quick poke and boom, journey continues to the hole. (And no, this was not a Seinfeld spit situation, it really made the 90 degree turn!) For the puller, it's easy to use. It is manual, but easy to retract and extend the cable. Nothing wrong with it (no scratches, loose parts, etc.) Definitely a problem solver for this particular situation. Next, I will see how it pulls a beer from the fridge to the couch, but for now, it's my new best tool in the arsenal for do-it-yourself.
Review: good product - perfect size. worked great

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would this work well to Run 14 gauge speaker wire across my attic that has blown in istallation?**
A: Once getting the hang of it, you could use it for that. Nothing against the tape, but wouldn't run plain wire through insulation. Rodents, including mice, like to chew on the insulation and even thru the copper conductors, rendering the cable useless. I would highly recommend putting up PVC conduit (rigid and/or flex), then using this tape to fish the wire through the conduit. You can split the conduit lengthwise and slip it over the cable in tight/cramped areas. No rodents in your attic? I ran a remodeling company for 17 years; yours would be about the first that didn't (even newer homes) - they're almost impossible to keep out - especially mice.

**Q: Under product details, “included components”: it says “tools/accessories”. Mine included neither tools nor accessories. What is meant by this?**
A: Mine included the fish tape only…needed no tools or accessories.

**Q: What size drill bit to fit the head of the tape into a wall? Was hoping a 1/4" bit is big enough so I can pull ethernet.**
A: Klein fish tape is 1/4 inch wide. You should be able to thread it through 1/4 inch hole, might be a little snug. If so, try a 5/16 inch bit.

**Q: Do you have 50’ long and 1/4” wide**
A: Yes

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ good product
*by M***Y on May 2, 2026*

perfect size. worked great

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good tape overall but you have to know how to wind it up
*by N***N on October 13, 2022*

First, this is a good quality fish tape that is the right balance of sturdiness and flexibility. The last foot or so is perfectly straight and the rest of the tape comes off the reel with very little curl to it. However, you have to apply some tension to the tape as you wind it up. Especially the last 5-10 feet. If you don't, it will get bound up inside the reel and you'll struggle to get it untangled. But just hold pressure on the tape as you wind it up and it stores just fine! This is because of how straight the tape comes off the roll. If it were easier to roll up, the tape would also have an annoying curl to it. I know -- I have another tape (GB brand) that is so curly I almost can't use it. But it rolls up easily! There is one change I'd like to make. I wish the foot markings started at 1 at the end of the tape. I'd like to know how many feet of tape I've pushed into the conduit I'm fishing. Since the foot marking start at 50 and then count down, I just know how many feet are left on the reel. I have to subtract from 50 to see how many feet I've pushed out.
