I didn't even think about this when I bought it but it makes sense because it's porous. It heats up nice. I put a cookie sheet underneath the next rack below when I started cooking our pizza but then removed it after a few minutes to let it cook the bottom. It turned out nicely but I was a little hesitant to leave it for the entire cooking time but it was my first time to use it. Trial and error but the main ingredient is did it work well and the answer is yes. It works very well. I wish it was just a little larger but for the price I wasn't going to complain about it at all. Note: Don't use soap to clean it because as I mentioned earlier it is porous stone and you would not want a soap smell or taste with your pizza. Stone is quite thin than expected but i would say it is as described. Have to be careful handling it as dropping it might break it for sure. I recommend using this with a foil on top for easy and mess free cleaning.
