I used it on the fireplace. If was on a table it would be even more amazing just because it would have a stronger surface to stick to being that brink is a little less adhesive.... Tired of 5-star reviews by people who get freebies? Me too. I did NOT receive a freebie, and you can 100% trust this review.You get 18 feet and 4 corners of 1/2 inch padding. The cushion is VERY thick and spongy, and will definitely prevent injury should someone fall on a corner or edge protected by this product.Installation is pretty easy. You cut the length you need and stick it where you want it to go. I don't see the adhesive damaging wood or finished surfaces because it's not strong enough. However, you may have trouble with the adhesive sticking to very smooth surfaces like mirrors or glass, especially if you live in a humid area. My recommendation would be to rub the surface down with alcohol before applying the cushion, to remove oils and dirt which would impede adhesion.The problem is that this product is useless for toddlers. My 8 month old girl crawled over to our bookcase, pulled the cushion off with the greatest of ease, and started hitting the cat with it. The cat ran away (she's OK), and then the baby lifted the cushion above her head and gave a victory scream. Over the next few days the same drama played out. Babies are surprisingly fast and strong for their size, and I think ANYONE'S baby will be able to pull the cushion off within seconds. And then, of course, into the mouth it goes.The packaging says this is #5 plastic, polypropylene, which is one of the safer plastics, and is used for things like yogurt cups and baby bottles. The Chinese manufacturer probably adds a foaming agent and air to give the plastic its very soft, foamy feel. The good news is that this plastic is resistant to heat and moisture (and therefore mildew, too). It's considered non-toxic, but I still wouldn't want my baby sucking on it: I have no clue how safe the foaming agent or the provided double-sided tape are. Besides, I'm sure sucking on plastic can't be good, even if the plastic is considered safe. It's simply not good ju-ju.I thought of nailing the cushion into place, but I had a vision of my daughter hitting her head on the nail, or the nail coming out. Besides, the tensile stress of the nail would cause the foamed plastic prone to tearing, making small edible bits and larger choking hazard bits of plastic for baby. No bueno! Duct tape would actually work, I think. Adults have a hard time pulling duct tape off. But then your furniture has duct tape on it, and that would very likely ruin a finish (besides being ugly).I'll tell you what I honestly think.For toddlers this product is completely useless. They will tear it off within seconds. Guaranteed. Anyone who says differently either doesn't have a baby or else they received a "complimentary product" for an "honest" review.For kids the product may be useful. It's certainly protective, and I don't see most 8 year old boys having enough interest in a piece of cushion to rip it off (although with kids you never know).For adults who are prone to falling (e.g. an aging parent or someone with cerebal palsy) or if you keep stubbing your toe on the same darn corner every night, then this product could be very useful.The reason why I give this product 1 star is because it's marketed specifically for child safety, so most people who buy this product will be buying it to protect their babies, and this product is NOT effective for babies. For adults or kids who won't be picking at it, this product may be 4 or even 5 stars with the provisio that it's intended for a single point of contact -- it saves you from a fall. Or a bump.
