Although the original thank you card that went out with this blanket say that it should be hand washed only, they were erring on the side of caution and have had customers machine wash the blanket without any problems. That said, I will be keeping this blanket temporarily to see if it does indeed machine wash well. If not, I will return it, as a picnic blanket that is difficult to wash wouldn't be useful to me.Old Review: This blanket is HAND WASH ONLY! Unbelievable, for an outdoor blanket!!! Otherwise it's beautiful, but something that must be spot cleaned and hand washed is not an option for us for a picnic/grass/beach/sand blanket. So this is going back. I really wish they had made it more clear that this was such a fragile item. It's slightly thicker than the average blanket, but I was expecting it to be much more padded considering how expensive it was. The cotton inside (or whatever the stuffing is) doesn't do much when you're sitting on it. On the plus side it comes with a sturdy box and can easily fit two people on it. It also bothered me that the black label on mine was placed very poorly in an off-centered/crooked position.
