It's one of the few coolers I found acceptable for an LGA 2011v3 socket. This cooler has copper heat pipes flattened into an even surface area for direct contact with the chip (no nickel plating). A large fan and fins are position to blow air and remove hear (in my case) directly out the rear of my case using a 180mm case fan (I think it's 180). For the 2011 slot installation it really could not be simpler. There are 4 metal spacers that fit as sleves over the screw holes giving just the right vertical spacing to firmly lock up the tower on the board. 2 little arms are mounted to the bottom to cover the holes and with great delight I report (to those of you who have yet to work with the LGA 2011) there is no backplate. It screws on with 4 screws and that's it.The only downside to this cooler is the thermal paste which comes in a syringe and is pretty inexpensive in my view. I used it because this is temporary build before I install water cooling and I didn't want to waste the good stuff. I would take off only 1/2 or 1/3 a star for that if I could. I frankly don't expect decent thermal paste to ship with a cooler any more :)This cooler runs my chip at idle at under 90 degrees farenheit with a low RPM on the fan. More than acceptable. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ BEST bang for buck, better than closed loop liquid in many cases. *by M***O on Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2014* This is a beast of an air cooler. Not quite up there with some of the twin fan designs but a 320w TDP nonetheless. Will easily out perform many closed loop liquid cooling solutions and be 1/5th the hassle to install. At least for socket 115* series. Socket 2011 it is only 1/10th the hassle. 115* requires the included back plate with adhesive be installed. The unit *can* be installed with your board in place if your chassis provides a cutout but I'd recommend mounting before putting the board in so you can work on a flat surface if possible. Arctic coolers are quiet and long lasting and I'd highly recommend this as probably one of the *best* solutions under $50. ### ⭐ Some Versions With Same Model Name Are NOT LGA 2011-3 Compatible. *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2016* Caution - There are a number of versions with exactly the same model name "ARCTIC Freezer i30 CO Extreme CPU Cooler" but different compatibility. LGA 2011-3 comes in two ILM socket configurations, namely, "square" with 80x80mm hole spacing and "narrow" with 56x94mm hole spacing. If you are purchasing a LGA2011-3 socket, you must first determine which ILM socket type. Best I can determine, these i30 models are all "square" type. Lastly, make sure your cooler will clear you ram.The one I end up with was NOT "LGA 2011-3" and even if I had purchased the correct model, it may not be Narrow ILM Socket compatible as their specifications are not that specific. Combined with Arctic's use of the same model name but different version specifications, if you require a 2011-3 version, you best be prepared to do the home work Arctic has not done for you.Arctic make a nice quiet cpu cooler and I went out of my way to purchase one here on Amazon. If it could have been mounted, I am sure it would have served for a long time as they make a high quality product.
