Though they are collapsable they seems quite sturdy and of very good quality. The small platforms that support the bottom seem strong as well (although I wouldn't suggest placing excessively heavy items in them with a plan to carry/move them about). As an aside - the width of our piece (inside post to inside post) is 50.25" and the bins are 11" wide leaving just over 1" between them and still making them easy to pull out for access.
