## Description

The Dykem 80300 Steel Blue layout fluid is used to coat metal to provide a glare-free, uniform color so scribes appear clear and sharp. This product is a transparent, blue stain. It can also be used on other surfaces to reveal defects or pinholes, or view gear tooth contact pattern. It provides a thin film without cracking or chipping and dries in minutes for convenience. It comes in a bottle containing 4 oz. of fluid. The bottle has a brush in the lid that can be used to apply the solution.Dykem manufactures marking systems including layout fluid, staining colors, thinner, remover, and mark and code pens. Established in 1920, Dykem was acquired in 1987 by Illinois Tool Works (ITW), now ITW Professional Brands. ITW Professional Brands is headquartered in Olathe, KS.

Review: Blue fingers... but seriously, this stuff works great for layouts - I decided I was getting a little more serious in my metal fabrication, and needed to upgrade my layout methods. Dykem is a tried and true product, and I don't know why I didn't use this sooner. It's been extremely helpful in laying out project on my lathe and other metal fab projects. It lasts quite a while - a little goes a long way.

**Q: What do use to thin it? It's a little too thick for my needs.**
A: I have had good results from a small amount of denatured alcohol.

**Q: is this the stuff used to mark the engraved sizes on sockets and wrenches ?**
A: No, layout fluid is used to temporarily die metal stock so the desired pattern can be marked for cutting/drilling.

**Q: Is it safe to use on brass cartridge casings?**
A: I believe it is how ever it will stain alminium

**Q: Will this gum up fine tooth TC burs or grinding burs? I'm looking for something as close to "hitting it with a sharpie" as possible.**
A: Have used this item for years with no negative effects. Was universally used in a machine shop I was associated with that also did grinding and welding. Paint it on. Let it dry. Scribe a line and it works. Is why I bottle for a home project. Brush to apply is in the container. Easy peasy!
