The 1:8 ratio makes it very difficult to nearly unusable to crank by hand. If you put the crank handle on the 1:1 shaft it contacts the 1:8 shaft. Also I had to rig up the pully system shown in the picture to be able to guide the wire onto the takeup spool because the take up spool turns the wrong direction.
