They are flexible but not flimsy. They have low sides so it is not like a open box sitting about. I have plants setting in one and the other has footwear in it. They keep the floor dry. I need a couple more so I can bring even more plants in the house to set in front of various windows. The neutral color works well for us. I think the black would have been way too much contrast whereas this one blends in and you notice the plants.
