The design and functionality is what it needs to be. The outlier is what it is designed to carry: your dog. How comfortable you end up is completely based on how your dog reacts to it. Impossible to gauge until you try it. Mine is relatively ok. She is nervous and can kick around, so that moves the backpack out of position and like others have noted, will sometimes dig into the bottom of your back. This is not the backpack. This is the dog. If the dog does not move much, the backpack works (like carrying books/laptop for school). but your dog is not a textbook . When your dog gets shifty/restless, then your comfort level begins to trend down. If you're an all day back packer/hiker/biker enthusiast, please break your poor dog in first. If you marathon the dog to start off, you're going to probably hurt it and yourself. Start 1/2 hour, then hour, etc. Constant breaks. See how the dog evolves with it, and go from there. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brought the Houdini Out of my Dog *by H***K on Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2017* I read that if the were on the cusp of sizing to go up, so I got a large for my 20" long pup. I have to modify it to be smaller around the body near the chest because he pulls out his front paws. Not the end of the world, I can still get it to zip up. A more sturdy buckle at the chest would be nice, especially for the large size, I'm sure it's ok if your dog is very small. I got this for travel as my dog is too heavy for me to carry in a shoulder bag comfortably.
