How I plan to use this: As an introduction to dictionaries, I plan to explain to him what a dictionary is and skim through it with him- see if anything catches his eye. Then I'll explain how it works when we pick a specific picture, how the picture represents the word and then it provides an explanation of that word and then read him the sentence. After, (because the dictionary is limited to 1,000 words) I will suggest a short premade list of words that he can choose from and I will start to teach him how to look up words. I think this method can also be helped later on to introduce/reinforce 'alphabetical order'. I also might choose to have him copy the definition of the selected word because all definitions are captioned in short sentences, but it's just an idea if we want extra writing practice. I agree with some other reviewers who mentioned that it lacks some words that should be there, but as a first dictionary for my five year old, this is just working fine. My 21 month old also likes to read this dictionary (he is more into the pictures in the dictionary rather than words of course).
