The original electrical box was nailed to the truss. I was suprised how closely I could get the new box to the truss plate. It is very adjustable. Also, one side is sitting on a truss plate and this holds on to the truss plate just fine. This support is strong, even at the 24" width. It is definitely going to work for the 52" fans that I have. The fan doesn't wobble or move a bit. It feels SOLID. This support was very easy to install. I've never done this before, and the hardest part was enlarging the hole in the drywall. My trusses are at about the maximum spacing possible with this product and it is securely holding a fixture that is about 30 pounds. I believe it is rated for 50 total, which based on my experience it should be able to do. **Q: are the ends plastic?** A: No, they are metal **Q: Can this be installed over truss plates?** A: I believe that they can be installed over trust plates as long as you do not harm the structural integrity of the building. You would probably have to pre-drill the installation holes **Q: Where can i purchase the 939 model?** A: I couldn't find a retailer.
