Review: Offers much needed soccer head protection! - Soccer is one of the top 5 sports for head injuries and concussions. Every child playing soccer should have a head guard or helmet. Football, hockey, lacrosse and rugby players wear helmets. Kids on bicycles wear helmets. So why don't soccer players? The culture of soccer needs to change! This head guard looks more like a head band than a helmet, so there was no reluctance on the part of my boy in wearing it. It's comfortable and looks cool. Since this head guard doesn't go up very high on the skull, I'd recommend getting the Full 90 F1 helmet instead for more complete head protection. My boy still got bopped in the head by flying balls and falls on the turf this season. Also, the thickness, density and energy absorption of the foam should be beefed up by Full90. But partial head protection that's actually worn is better than a full helmet that a kid might be embarrassed to wear. The S/M size fit my 7 1/2 y/o boy well, and the royal blue color matched his soccer uniform well. My boy loves it!
Review: Safety and Style - I remember when these first started being used on the soccer field, I scoffed at the idea of people "wearing pads" in soccer. Shame on me! As someone who is well aware of the risks associated with TBI and someone who's been the victim of TBI (from soccer nonetheless), I of all people should be the last to scoff at a piece of equipment that helps protect against brain injuries. That said, I finally made the wise choice to purchase one for my two boys ages 7 and 16. I have had a lot of trouble trying to convince my oldest son that wearing the product would be in his own best interest, however, he is hard headed and refuses to wear it due to fear of being made fun of. Hopefully his hard head will protect him since he's too embarrassed to wear the one device that certainly would. That said, my 7yo son (who plays U9) loves his and refuses to step onto the pitch without it. He's even set a trend amongst his teammates who have either went and bought one after seeing his or have asked their parents to buy one like his. Personally, I think this particular headgear is well designed with safety and style in mind. Hopefully, U.S. Soccer and FIFA eventually consider making headgear mandatory on the pitch.

11 year old Kid says: Protects my head. Comfortable. Not itchy. No one made fun of me. Still can head balls no problem. Teammates say: it looks cool. Teammates parents: we want the to become part of the uniform. Mom says: it doesn't wash great, but it is washable. Easy to adjust. Dad says: Lots of colors.to pick from. This is the new standard for soccer. As a side note, I bought this for kid's bday, but mom didn't make him wear it to practices. It just sat in his bag until he and another kid bashed heads. You can bet he wore it to the next practice. Then he became a ground-breaking, cutting edge, and was the first to have one. So kids, and soccermoms: the kid has to wear it for it to work. Highly recommended. FIT approved.
