The problem is the wimpy tooling design that positioned and held the piece. The holding was so flimsy that I reverted to higher precision joint making. But, the smaller, quicker 5/8"-1/4" mortise joint is often the best choice. Larger joints have always been cut on a table saw mortise & tenon jig. I like this jig because it provides a higher degree of precision and expanded degrees of freedom on a radial drill press. Yes, setup is the whole shebang producing a quality mortise and joint. However, the setup is straightforward after the first installation. Review: Works Great - Works great. I did belt sand the black (plastic) back support to make it perpendicular to the table base. I also made a wood base (larger than the drill press table) to enlarge working/clamping options. Look up on the web for options. Worth the time to make one. It can’t work on big pieces of wood.
