That was one of the reasons I bought it. I keep mine in the ECO setting and the fan only comes on if the temperature is well below your setting temp. Once the difference is less it doesn't even come on. I am very happy with mine and I heat a space about 18' x 24'. I've been keeping the thermostat set at 72°F and it's been keeping my room between 65° and 70°F while it's been in the teens every night. **Q: Besides the heating elements what material holds the heat? Oil?** A: No oil in this unit, it doesn't need it because it is always ON. In the ECO setting, it warms the room and then steps down the power to whatever is required to hold the temp you set. You would think that would make it burn more electricity, but actually by holding the room at the set temperature, the walls stay warm and less electricity is needed. Wonderful invention. **Q: How is the heat being released? And will it dry the air? I suffer from dry eyes and cannot handle heaters that simply blow hot air.** A: Unfortunately it does blow some hot air but it's not too bad. Probably not a great option for your eye condition though. We do have a humidifier in the same room with the heater and it does help a little, but our apartment is very very dry... **Q: Is the case plastic or metal? Did it smell when you started using it? Thx!** A: Case is metal. Very slight odor on initial start. Dissipates in short time. The heater works very well and is very cosmetically appealing compared to some.
