It is simple and beautiful. The prose is like a poem, and reading it makes you breathe more slowly and helps calm you and your body down for the evening. My blood pressure always drops when I read this book. When she was a toddler, my kid asked for it and loved reading it and asking questions about each page, noticing all of the details in the illustrations that weren't mentioned in the text. Now it's become one of the books that helps us slow down, relax, and feel good.We have given this book as a gift many times to friends, and they always thank us for the addition to their kids' libraries.My white, blonde, blue-eyed kid didn't have enough books with Black kids when she was a toddler, and this was one of the first books we bought to help fix that problem.
