Either because they're either just that rough of a "soft" surface or they're so stiff you can use them to prop a door open. This mitt on the other hand is a great mitt. One side has ultra soft microfiber that is also very flexible to wash your car while it babies your paint job. While the other side is a nice strong mesh that can be used to get rid of the tough stuck on grime, sap, etc. If you want the right mitt to clean and take care of your car at the same time, this is the mitt for you. Pretty soft, holds a good amount of water. If it was much bigger I think it would be too floppy to use well, as it sorta moves on your hand when loaded up. I didn't need/use the back side yet...not sure if it is an asset or not...it looks like it might help with some bugs or similar stuff.
