Review: Great inverter! - Works as intended for use of microwave, toaster oven and fridge while dry camping. Tested with fridge and microwave running & starting/stopping both, did not trip offline, camper lights did not dim or flicker. Tested overload & trip offline function with excessive loading (microwave & toaster oven at the same time, 2800w) and was able to reduce load, reset unit and continue operations easily. Used this with two 300ah batteries. Also tested low battery trip offline by running space heater for 12hrs. Again was able to remove load, start charging batteries and reset inverter with ease. Works well with their remote and automatic transfer switch purchased separately. Would buy again if I had another need.
Review: High Load Installations Are Hard - I see a few complaints in the reviews about having trouble with high-load applications of this inverter. I bought one about a year ago, with the intent of using it to get solar-powered air conditioning in my RV. I made it work, eventually, and the problems I encountered had nothing to do with the inverter (which supplied 1500 watts sustained load and handled the surge of starting the AC, once I got everything else working). First of all, wiring: Everything will tell you that 4 gauge should be more than big enough: Not even close. I tried 4-gauge. Then I tried 0-gauge. Then I tried making the wire runs shorter. Then I started doubling up wire runs in parallel. By the time I was through, my battery interconnects were double and triple 4-gauge in parallel, and the connection to the inverter (coming from the center battery of 5) was 000-gauge (also known as 3/0). Connecting that to the terminals on the inverter required taking an industrial terminal block normally used for substation wiring and drilling a 3/8" hole to connect it to the terminals. Finally I had something that wouldn't drop 2+ volts over the wires when drawing 125 amps. When they say 4 gauge can pass 200+ amps, they mean that it won't melt the wire, not that it will give you a usable voltage. On top of that, batteries: Lead-acid batteries may say they can deliver huge numbers of amps, but not without huge voltage drops. In practice, for every amp you're drawing you want at least 2 pounds of battery (so, minimum 4 size 27 batteries to deliver 125 amps needed for 1500 watts). Try to power your space heater off something you can pick up assisted, and you're just going to get a lot of annoying beeps. And don't forget that after you've drawn off half of the amp hours theoretically available in your batteries, your *maximum* voltage will have dropped to around 11.8 (so battery load and wiring losses will be working from a lower baseline). With 5 type 27's, I could run the original rooftop air conditioner for no more than 1.5 hours before they were too far down to provide 11.0 volts under load. So I figured out a way to mount a modern, high-efficiency unit that provided the same cooling for half the power. The point here is that with a really big inverter, you're pushing 12V right to the absolute limits, and you have all *kinds* of weak points that will keep your system from working properly. These are really intended for big residential solar systems with batteries in the thousand-plus pound range. This inverter works *fantastically* well, now that the rest of the system is properly supporting it, but even for an experienced electronics tech getting all that arranged properly was quite an education.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this a pure sine wave??**
A: I only used this inverter for a very short time and it worked well. Did not get a chance to verify if it was pure sine wave as I upgraded to a 24 volts inverter within short time

**Q: Does this have a built in fuse or circuit breaker? Or do I have to install one outside of it? Thanks!**
A: IT Does but its not meant to be user serviable... its a 250 amp fuse. I would use a 200 amp external fuse or circuit breaker as system protection. that will pass 2 KW even at 10 volts DC so the fuse should blow above that level of power.

**Q: What's the VA rating for this inverter? How does it handle inductive/motor loads?**
A: 1800VA continuous load. It handles inductive loads fairly well, but if you are operating near 1800VA then you may want to look into power factor correction on your motors to help get the most out of it, as well as soft start for any motors over ~1.5 horse power.

**Q: Will this unit run solely off a battery bank like with a solar system or does it require an engine running to provide constant power to the batteries?**
A: It cuts off when it sees 10.5 volts at the unit. So yes, it will run on a battery only, no engine. Make sure you use large enough wire between the battery and the unit or the unit will see 10.5 volts with light loads.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ProWatt keeps it Cool!
*by F***! on February 5, 2016*

After living many years "off-grid" in northern Vermont I will say Xantrex offers great inverters! They are high quality and (IMO) are very well priced. Yep- the sine wave power is pure/clean. No interference or "buzzz" with these ProWatt's. They carry a good 2 year warranty with solid customer service. Most inverters only have a 1yr warranty. I have both the ProWatt 1K and a 2K. One of my favorite features on these Prowatt inverters is how quiet they run. These inverters have very rare thermostatically controlled cooling fans that are "variable". They will spool up or down just enough to cover the cooling need which is determined by the load heat within the inverter. Under light to medium loads the inverter cooling fans are running but slow, smooth & with zero noise. This is a big plus because the fans are working even under light loads to keep heat from building or accumulating within the inverter...this steady cooling helps to combat or control sudden heavy surge load heat temps as well. Heat kills electronics so a cool inverter is a happy inverter and happy inverters last! Most all other inverter manufacturers don't have these type cooling fans...most all offer thermostat temp control fans but they are NOT variable and they only turn on when the inverter is working hard and hot. So when the cooling fans are needed which is very often they run at full speed and they are loud. It would be great if Xantrex would offer a 3k or 4k watt inverter in this ProWatt line...I would certainly purchase one or two! I say go ProWatt!
