I had to experiment with placement and how high to turn it up, but it has been great once I found the sweet spot. Unfortunately, the instructions are not clear. The booklet has about a size 4-6 font and I had to get a magnifying glass to read it. It has a lot of modes, but doesn't explain the difference of what the mode does or why use one over the other. It is small and light weight, so I plan on using it traveling. When I remove the patches, there are no marks or redness on the skin. I use it on my hip, knee, shin, and it has made it so much easier to go up stairs. I've only been using it a couple weeks, every other day for 20 min. and my pain is almost gone. I highly recommend it. There is a newer version, but it is a little larger.
