I use it to hold a heavy lamp to light areas where I am soldering/de-solderring pc board parts. **Q: Can this mount on a tripod for a laser level?** A: Absolutely. So long as the laser device has a built-in screw socket on the underside as most do. **Q: Is this hollow that wires could be run thru it?** A: I see you have same idea as I do. I want to create a custom lamp with long enough gooseneck arm. There are none to be found anywhere, so I am thinking that the response would indicate the bases on this are indeed solid, but ... Possibly can drill through the threaded holes with a bit diameter just shy of this diameter, and possibly run lamp cord or equivalent size cord through this. I really like the extension arms. I have purchased 3 of them. And although I am not using them to support anything really heavy, I find them to be excellent quality. They have a almost weird way of easily being able to bend it for positioning it, then when and where you stop, with just a slight pull back in the opposite direction to gravity, it locks into place, and is very stiff. Very clever. Not sure how it works inside.
