Rubbing alcohol is allowed in checked luggage on airlines (much research on this beforehand). Yes it did soot the bottom of my pot BUT it wiped off easily with a dry cloth. I rehydrated every meal with a 2/3 cup of boiled water. It boiled 2/3 cup of water very quickly in about 4 to 5 minutes. This little burner works exactly as I hoped it would.
